New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced the creation of a new municipal office dedicated to combating antisemitism—the first of its kind in a major U.S. city. The office will coordinate an interagency team tasked with addressing antisemitic hate, monitoring hate crime cases, providing legal guidance to city departments, and enforcing anti-discrimination policies at city-funded institutions. The move comes amid a sharp rise in antisemitic incidents since October 2023. According to NYPD data, 62% of all hate crimes reported in the city during the first quarter of 2025 targeted Jewish individuals or institutions. The new office will be led by Rabbi Moshe Davis, Mayor Adams' Jewish liaison since 2022. Davis will chair an advisory forum with leaders of the city’s Jewish community and report directly to Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro.
