New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued a blessing to the Jewish community in the city ahead of the Tisha B'Av fast and wished residents "to reflect on the history and resilience of the Jewish people." In a post published on X, Mamdani wrote: "May all who observe this day have a safe and meaningful fast." The conciliatory message comes shortly after the publication of a video by the mayor against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that became the most-viewed ever on his official account with more than 67 million views and nine million likes in less than 24 hours. In the video, Mamdani acknowledged that he cannot legally stop Netanyahu during his expected visit to the UN General Assembly in September.
