Trump appoints Chabad rabbi who helped rally voters as antisemitism envoy

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, affiliated with the Chabad movement, as the White House’s special envoy to combat antisemitism. Kaploun, who worked on Trump’s campaign to garner Jewish support, said Jews in the United States “live in fear” and compared the current atmosphere to Germany prior to Kristallnacht. His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
Kaploun, who is expected to replace Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt, previously stated he would accept the role only if it carried real substance and was not merely symbolic.
