Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa gave an interview to Fox News after his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, saying his country will not currently enter direct negotiations with Israel on joining the Abraham Accords.
"The situation in Syria is different from the countries that went with the Abraham Accords. Syria has borders with Israel, and Israel has held the Golan Heights since 1967," said al-Sharaa.
According to him, "We will not enter direct negotiations right now. Perhaps the American administration, along with President Trump, will help us reach this kind of negotiation."
Al-Sharaa also said he did not discuss his past as an al-Qaeda commander with the president. "That's a matter from the past," he said.
