Israeli offensive cyber company NSO has been fined $168 million following a California trial, after it was determined that the company breached WhatsApp servers and assisted foreign governments in surveilling users. The trial, which lasted six years against tech giant Meta, revealed that NSO charged seven million dollars from government clients in Europe for simultaneously hacking 15 devices - with an additional two million for hacking outside national borders. In court, the company admitted that between 2018 and 2020 it hacked thousands of devices.
