Columbia University in the United States will pay a $200 million fine to settle claims raised by President Donald Trump's administration that the academic institution did not do enough to prevent harassment against Jewish students.
As part of the agreement, which will lead to the restoration of hundreds of millions of dollars in frozen federal research grants, the university committed to comply with laws prohibiting affirmative action in admissions and faculty recruitment, and to implement additional measures to reduce antisemitism and disruptions on campus.
The agreement will be valid for three years and stipulates that an external monitor will be appointed to the university who will report directly to the administration.
