US lawmakers threaten sanctions over proposed UN probe into Israel

The Republican chairmen of the U.S. Senate and House Foreign Affairs Committees have threatened sanctions against the United Nations Human Rights Council if it moves forward with establishing a new investigative body targeting Israel.
In a letter sent to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Senator Jim Risch and Representative Brian Mast warned that any country, UN body or agency supporting such a mechanism would face "the same consequences" imposed on the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which was sanctioned by the Trump administration.
