The members of the UN Security Council issued a joint statement in which they demanded that Israel "immediately remove" any barrier to the flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The members of the council, including the U.S., praised the recent steps taken by Israel, including the opening of a new crossing in the northern Gaza Strip and the flow of aid from the Ashdod port, but emphasized that "more" must be done, adding: "The decisions must be implemented fully, immediately and continuously." In addition, the members of the council reiterated "our deep concern for the human cost of the conflict, the catastrophic humanitarian situation and the threat of starvation in Gaza."
