Two members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps were killed and two others wounded in what the IRGC described as a “terrorist” shooting in the western province of Kermanshah on Monday evening, state media reported Tuesday.
The attackers opened fire outside the IRGC members’ home before fleeing the scene, according to the report. Authorities said an investigation was underway to identify those responsible.
State media did not name any suspects or say whether the gunmen were linked to Kurdish groups, which have previously clashed with Iranian security forces in the country’s west. Kermanshah, a Kurdish-majority province near the border with Iraq, has long been one of several areas where armed Kurdish opposition groups and Iranian forces have operated.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the shooting.
