White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said Wednesday that "Israel is not committing genocide in Gaza," emphasizing that "IDF soldiers don’t wake up in the morning and decide to kill people because they’re Palestinian."
However, Kirby acknowledged U.S. concerns about the high number of casualties in Gaza.
Kirby also addressed the involvement of President-elect Donald Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, in talks in Qatar. "If we cannot reach a deal before the transition of power, Trump’s team will take over from there," Kirby said during a press briefing.
