Syrian state news agency SANA reported Israeli strikes in the village of Abdin in the Daraa area and said residents had left their homes following the fire.
Lebanese network Al Mayadeen, affiliated with Hezbollah, reported a “mass displacement” of residents from Abdin, in the rural Daraa area, to nearby villages following Israeli artillery strikes.
Earlier, footage circulated showing residents of Abdin throwing stones at IDF soldiers.
In late March, the IDF was reported to have carried out strikes in Syria following incidents in which Druze civilians were attacked in the Sweida area. In response to the harm caused to Druze civilians, the IDF struck a headquarters and weapons belonging to the al-Sharaa regime in southern Syria.
About two weeks ago, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was disappointed with the way Israel was handling Hezbollah and that he was considering allowing Syria to “deal with the issue.”
Al-Sharaa responded by saying that “President Trump expressed his concern about what is happening in Lebanon and wants to stop the war there. He spoke about Syria’s role in finding a safe solution. But the statement was misinterpreted, as if Syria is about to invade Lebanon tomorrow morning.”
