A 9-year-old ultra-Orthodox boy was killed after being struck by a school bus in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City. The fatal accident occurred when the child, Yoel Yakubovitz, was on his way to school at a yeshiva located in the heart of the Satmar Hasidic stronghold. The bus driver, 49, left the scene after the collision but returned after being informed of the incident. Police are still investigating the circumstances of the accident. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani released a statement of condolence to the family, saying he is "heartbroken by the loss."
