Officials in U.S. President Donald Trump's administration recently contacted associates of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, attempting to offer him a position in the administration in exchange for withdrawing from his re-election bid. This was stated by a source familiar with the details to the AP news agency. According to the New York Times, the move is intended to clear the field in the mayoral election and weaken the Democratic Party candidate, Zohran Mamdani. It was also reported that Trump's associates and prominent business figures in the city are trying to boost the chances of Andrew Cuomo, the former governor who is running as an independent candidate after being defeated in the primaries.
