US government cancels federally funded projects suspected of terror links

The US Department of Homeland Security has canceled 49 federally funded projects worth approximately $8 million following suspicions of terrorism links, including to Hamas. Among the canceled cases was a $100,000 grant transferred in 2019 to a mosque in Virginia that border authorities described as a "cover for Hamas operatives in the US." The department noted they will implement more stringent screening procedures for religious and community institutions to "prevent funds from being transferred to entities that may pose a threat" and are even considering retroactive measures to recover unused funds.
