Social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has been experiencing significant outages on Monday, affecting tens of thousands of users worldwide who were unable to access the app and website. According to DownDetector, a service that tracks user-reported issues, the first reports of the disruption began appearing late in the morning.
Musk took to the platform, claiming that the outages were the result of a massive cyberattack on the company’s servers. "There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved…" Musk wrote in a post.
According to DownDetector, at 4:58 p.m. (local Israel time), more than 40,000 complaints were logged from U.S. users reporting difficulties accessing the service. By 5:10 p.m., the reports began to taper off as some users regained access to the platform.
