Israel has delivered an advanced BARAK MX air-defense system to Slovakia under a 560 million euro agreement signed in 2024.
The system was supplied by the Israel Aerospace Industries in cooperation with the Defense Ministry through its SIBAT defense export directorate. The delivery was completed ahead of schedule and includes training and operational support for Slovak forces.
The BARAK MX is a multi-layered air-defense system designed to intercept a range of aerial threats, including drones, fighter aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. It features interceptor ranges of up to 150 kilometers and uses advanced radar systems for detection and tracking.
Defense Minister Israel Katz said the system reflects the strength of Israel’s defense industry and rising global demand for its technology, calling the deal both a security and industrial cooperation milestone.
Slovakia’s defense ministry said the first battery has already been deployed at an undisclosed location and is being integrated into operations, with full readiness expected in the coming weeks. Training of Slovak personnel is ongoing, alongside the arrival of additional system components.
Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák said the deployment marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s air defenses and its integration with NATO standards.
IAI President Boaz Levy said close cooperation with Slovak partners enabled rapid adaptation and on-time delivery of the system, adding confidence it will provide strong protection for Slovak airspace.
The deal also includes industrial cooperation and technology transfer components aimed at supporting local Slovak industry.
