Last week, the European safety organization EURO NCAP published the results of its crash tests for 2024 models. EURO NCAP is currently considered the leading authority in Europe for conducting vehicle safety tests, and automakers generally adhere to the standards set by the organization.
The list of the safest models, according to EURO NCAP, includes the Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Passat, Mazda CX-80, and Zeekr X. The best-performing vehicle in last year's tests was the Mercedes E-Class.

Alongside the models that excelled in the crash tests, there are those that ranked at the lower end of the table. These models, some of which are also marketed in Israel, failed the crash tests and received low ratings—three out of five stars. Crash test ratings are divided into categories, meaning that the overall score is based on evaluations in several areas: protection for vehicle occupants, protection for children, protection for pedestrians, and the rating for active safety systems (such as lane-keeping assist systems).
The first model to receive a low rating is the Suzuki Swift, which scored three out of five stars. The Swift received a low score of 67% in the vehicle occupant protection category. Its safety rating for child protection was poor, at 65%. The pedestrian protection score was 76%, while the performance of its safety systems was rated at only 62%. According to EURO NCAP, in the event of an accident, there is a risk of injury to the legs of passengers seated in the front.

In addition to the Swift, the new Dacia Duster also received a safety rating of only three stars. According to EURO NCAP, the Duster scored 70% in the adult occupant protection category. Its child protection performance was reasonable, with a score of 80%, but its pedestrian protection score was poor at only 60%. In the safety systems category, the Duster received a very low score of just 57%.
The Jeep Avenger also received a low rating of three stars. In the adult occupant protection category, the small Jeep scored 79%. For child protection, it scored 70%, and for pedestrian protection, it received a low score of 59%. The Avenger's safety systems were rated at 53%.
In addition to passenger cars, two commercial models were also tested: the Ford Tourneo Courier and Ford Tourneo Custom, which are not marketed in Israel. Both commercial models received low ratings of three safety stars as well.
