Global payroll and human resources platform Deel said Monday it has acquired Clarity, an artificial intelligence cybersecurity startup specializing in identity verification, deepfake detection and fraud prevention, as the company seeks to strengthen security tools for employers managing international workforces.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Clarity develops AI-based technologies designed to verify user identities, detect manipulated audio and video, identify deepfakes and prevent fraud. Deel said it plans to integrate those capabilities into its platform, extending identity verification beyond the hiring process to include ongoing workforce authentication, device management and secure employee access.
The acquisition comes as businesses increasingly contend with AI-enabled fraud, including the use of synthetic identities, deepfake videos and voice cloning in recruitment and corporate communications.
As part of the deal, Clarity's engineering team will join Deel, and the company's technology will be incorporated into Deel's existing products, including its IT and workforce management services.
Deel said the acquisition will allow customers to combine identity verification before hiring with continuous authentication throughout an employee's tenure. The company already works with third-party providers for background checks and said Clarity's technology will complement, rather than replace, those partnerships.
The acquisition is Deel's 15th purchase since the company was founded and continues its strategy of expanding its platform through acquisitions rather than building every capability internally.
Separately, Deel said it has surpassed $1.5 billion in annual recurring revenue during the first half of 2026, a metric commonly used by software companies to measure the value of recurring subscription contracts. The privately held company did not release additional financial details or provide independent verification of the figure.
Founded in 2019, Deel provides payroll, human resources, compliance, benefits, immigration and IT management services for companies employing workers across international borders. The company says its platform is used by more than 40,000 organizations operating in more than 150 countries.
The acquisition reflects a broader trend among enterprise software companies to add AI-driven cybersecurity and identity verification capabilities as organizations seek to guard against increasingly sophisticated fraud enabled by generative artificial intelligence.
