Gaming company Playtika is laying off around 90 employees, including several dozen in Israel and the rest in Poland. The layoffs affect development teams for the games Best Fiends and Redecor, and follow a recent round of cuts at Wooga, a Playtika subsidiary, which let go of about 50 employees.
The decision appears linked to underwhelming performance of the two titles. Revenue from Best Fiends has dropped significantly over the past three years.
Playtika acquired Finnish developer Reworks in 2021 in a deal valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. The acquisition was intended to strengthen Playtika’s foothold in the growing genre of home design games. Redecor, a simulation-based interior design game, is considered a standout in the field. Since the acquisition, however, the company has faced challenges integrating Reworks, with the studio’s founders leaving within two years.

In the first quarter of this year, Playtika reported record revenue, but profits fell sharply, as did its profit margins. The company is currently valued at under $2 billion on Nasdaq.
