After months of anticipation, Disney and Marvel Studios released the first full trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday” on Monday, offering the clearest look yet at Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — this time as Victor von Doom.
The trailer places Downey’s Doctor Doom at the center of a multiverse-spanning confrontation involving characters from the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
Downey, the actor most closely associated with the MCU’s rise through his role as Tony Stark and Iron Man, now appears as one of Marvel’s most famous villains. The trailer presents Doom as the principal threat facing heroes from several different universes and includes a confrontation with Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth.
The footage also brings together Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and the Fantastic Four, played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Veteran X-Men stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen return as Professor X and Magneto, alongside several other actors from the earlier X-Men films.
One of the trailer’s most notable moments is the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. Marvel had already confirmed his appearance in an earlier teaser, but the new footage provides a fuller look at his role and places him alongside heroes who have emerged since his departure as Captain America.
The film carries particular importance for Marvel after several recent movies and television series struggled to match the cultural impact and box-office dominance of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” “Doomsday” appears designed to reconnect the studio’s increasingly scattered storylines and restore the sense of a major crossover event.
Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed “Infinity War” and “Endgame,” return to direct the film. The cast also includes Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Channing Tatum, James Marsden and Kelsey Grammer.
“Avengers: Doomsday” will be released in Israel on Dec. 17 and in the United States on Dec. 18.
