Netanyahu praises Emmy win after director of Nova film calls to end war

Prime minister congratulates Israeli documentary 'We Will Dance Again' for Emmy win after director used platform to condemn war and call for hostage release

Director Yariv Mozer used his acceptance speech to urge an end to the war in Gaza and accused both Hamas and the Israeli government of perpetuating the war for political gain.

“More than anything, we dedicate this award to the safe and immediate return of the hostages still in Gaza,” Mozer said on stage. “We want the cycle of bloodshed to end. This war must end. It cannot serve the interests of the Israeli government or the terrorist organization Hamas.”
Despite Mozer’s pointed remarks, nearly two days later, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement congratulating the filmmakers. “I want to congratulate director Yariv Mozer and all the creators of ‘We Will Dance Again’ on winning the prestigious Emmy Award,” Netanyahu said.

“The film gives voice to the survivors of the horrific massacre at the Nova festival and tells the world the story of young people who came to celebrate life and were met with unimaginable evil.
“This award is a painful yet moving reminder of the victims, the recovery journey of the wounded—both physically and emotionally—the hope of their families and the ongoing struggle to bring all the hostages home.” Netanyahu did not directly address Mozer’s criticism in his statement.
