The 2026 awards season opens overnight with the Golden Globe Awards, which once again return this year as the main barometer for what is expected to unfold later at the Oscars and the Emmy Awards. The ceremony will also be broadcast live in Israel on yes TV Drama.
After years of upheaval, management changes and attempts to restore lost prestige, Hollywood is gathering once again in Beverly Hills, with the classic mix of stars, alcohol, speeches that run too long and an array of happy winners — and slightly less happy losers. The ceremony will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser for the second consecutive year, after she hosted the 2025 Globes to strong praise.
Leading this year’s film nominations is “One Battle After Another,” the much-discussed epic by director Paul Thomas Anderson, which earned widespread acclaim this year and landed nine Golden Globe nominations, including in the musical or comedy film category as well as acting and directing. Close behind is “Sentimental Value,” by Norwegian director Joachim Trier, with eight nominations. “Sinners,” the horror film by director Ryan Coogler, follows with seven nominations, and then “Hamnet,” by Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao (“Nomadland”), with six.
“Frankenstein,” the period horror epic by director Guillermo del Toro, received five nominations, as did “Wicked: For Good.” Rounding out the leading contenders is “Marty Supreme,” starring Timothee Chalamet, with three nominations.
On the television side, HBO’s “The White Lotus” leads with six nominations. “Adolescence,” Netflix’s much-talked-about drama, which already picked up six statuettes at the most recent Emmy Awards, follows with five nominations. The fifth season of “Only Murders in the Building” earned four nominations, as did the second season of Apple TV Plus “Severance.” “The Studio,” which swept 13 Emmy Awards, received just three nominations, as did past winners such as “The Bear,” “Hacks” and “Abbott Elementary.”
“The Pitt,” the medical drama starring Noah Wyle that won five Emmys at the last ceremony, received only two Golden Globe nominations, as did the buzzy “Pluribus,” from creator Vince Gilligan (“Breaking Bad”).
At this stage, there is no clear Israeli representation among the nominees, but there is an Israeli-related point of note in the form of “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” by Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania. The film tells the story of a 5-year-old Palestinian girl who was killed during an Israeli military raid in Gaza, after fire was opened on the family’s vehicle, killing her uncle, aunt and their three children. The film is nominated for best foreign language film, after already winning the jury prize at the Venice Film Festival and making the Oscars shortlist in the best international feature film category.
The identities of two recipients who will take home statuettes tonight are already known: Helen Mirren will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement — and is also nominated for best actress in a drama series for her role in “Mobland” — while the Carol Burnett Award, also honoring lifetime achievement, will be presented to Sarah Jessica Parker.
