From podcast to Netflix? Israeli show turns collecting into a global storytelling phenomenon

Bar Gindy’s People & Collectors podcast—now one of Israel’s biggest—blends memory, meaning and emotion through collectors' stories, with ambitions to reach Netflix audiences worldwide as a full-fledged docuseries by 2026

From a young age, Bar Gindy was a collector. Stamps, sneakers, coins, toys, almost anything that carried meaning found its way into his hands. Over time, however, it became clear that he was never truly collecting objects. He was collecting stories.
Each item represented a fragment of memory, of childhood, of people, of emotions he refused to let fade. That understanding gradually shaped his life’s work.

A few years ago, Gindy decided to turn his lifelong fascination with collecting into a storytelling platform.
That decision led to the creation of People & Collectors ("אנשים ואספנים"), which has since become the largest collecting podcast in Israel.
In each episode, Gindy visits the homes of collectors, ranging from rappers and visual artists to engineers and teachers, and explores what drives them to preserve objects others might overlook. The focus is never on the items themselves. It is on love, loss, memory and meaning.

The rooms he enters are filled with collections, but what lingers are the emotions behind them. He encounters people who collect to remember, to heal, to feel safe and to stay curious. Their stories reveal how universal the instinct to collect truly is.
Today, People & Collectors reaches hundreds of thousands of viewers, ranks among Israel’s leading podcasts and offers subtitles in more than 50 languages. Yet numbers are not the core measure of success. Connection is.

A lifelong curiosity about people

Before launching the podcast, Gindy spent over sixteen years building communities among youth, soldiers, investors and diverse social groups.

Those years reinforced a simple truth. People are always searching for meaning and belonging. Whether through communities or collections, individuals seek anchors that help define who they are. That curiosity about people and what they value ultimately led Gindy to the microphone and the camera.
When Gindy meets collectors, he sees more than objects. He sees reflections of shared humanity. A child who never stopped dreaming. A parent trying to hold onto time. A person chasing beauty in the smallest details.
In 2025, People & Collectors was awarded third place in the Breakthrough Podcast of the Year category at Israel’s national podcast competition, organized by Geektime in collaboration with TikTok, receiving close to 2,000 public votes.

This recognition marked a significant milestone. It reflected growing public trust, cultural relevance and clear momentum for the podcast. The timing is particularly notable as global platforms, including Netflix, expand their investment in podcast-driven and documentary-based titles during the coming year.
The achievement points to a strong and optimistic trajectory for People & Collectors as it transitions from a local success to an internationally scalable format.

Looking ahead

Gindy has set a clear personal goal: to bring People & Collectors to Netflix by 2026 as a global documentary series exploring the emotional worlds of collectors across continents, from Tokyo to New York, from Tel Aviv to Bangkok.
The ambition is substantial, but it is rooted in purpose. The series aims to demonstrate that collecting is not a niche hobby. It is a language of the soul. A way people express identity, values and the fear of losing what matters most.
Recently, Gindy’s work found an additional platform on ynet Global, where he now publishes weekly stories highlighting the lives and passions of exceptional collectors worldwide. It is a continuation of the same journey, connecting people through emotion, curiosity and memory.
Beyond his own show, Gindy also dedicates part of his work to producing podcasts for CEOs and business leaders who seek to strengthen their personal brand, share authentic stories and create meaningful conversations with real impact.
Because ultimately, a microphone and a camera are more than tools. They are a bridge. A way to connect, inspire, and remind us that every voice carries a story worth collecting.
