Tom Cruise may be one of the world’s biggest movie stars, a multimillionaire and one of Hollywood’s most recognizable leading men, but according to people close to him, there is one part of his life that remains frustratingly unresolved: romance.
Sources close to the 64-year-old actor told the Daily Mail that Cruise has grown tired of being alone. “Tom is frustrated that he can’t find love because he feels lonely,” one source said, while stressing that he is not desperate for a relationship. The source added that Victoria Beckham has been trying to introduce him to younger women.
Cruise certainly does not have a thin romantic résumé. He has been married three times, to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children, and Katie Holmes, with whom he shares a daughter.
Over the years, he has also been linked to several other women. Most recently, he was rumored to have been involved with actress Ana de Armas, 38, though Cruise is not known to have been in a serious long-term relationship for some time.
De Armas has since moved on to another relationship. “It was hard for Tom to see her move on, but he’s happy for her if she’s happy,” the source said.

Another former partner who has recently entered a new relationship is Cruise’s third wife, Katie Holmes, though his feelings toward her are reportedly much more complicated.
“His split from Katie Holmes was a public humiliation,” the source claimed. “I think it was hard for him to see her move on, but the truth is no one knows what he feels. He doesn’t like to talk about her, and everyone close to him knows not to bring her up around him.”

Cruise remains close to Connor and Isabella, his two children with Kidman. The pair are widely reported to have little contact with their mother.
His relationship with Suri, his daughter with Holmes, is very different. The two have reportedly been estranged for years, and Suri has dropped Cruise from the surname she uses publicly.
It is not known whether Cruise has attempted to rebuild their relationship. They were last photographed together in 2012. “It was difficult for him to hear that she had removed his last name,” the source claimed. “It broke his heart.”

The source also discussed Kidman, who recently divorced her second husband, Keith Urban, and has reportedly begun a new relationship. According to the source, Cruise had once hoped things would work out between them, but their marriage became increasingly combative.
“Tom would have loved for things to work out with her, but they fought a lot and became very competitive,” the source said. “Nicole was determined to succeed and did a lot to make that happen. You don’t get in her way.”
The source claimed their arguments became so loud that neighbors in their New York building could hear them. But Cruise reportedly looks back on Kidman’s subsequent career with admiration. “He’s impressed by what she’s accomplished and by her Oscar,” the source said. “In a strange way he’s proud of her, but he definitely doesn’t miss her.”

There is another famous former girlfriend who reportedly occupies a very different place in Cruise’s romantic history: Penélope Cruz.
Cruise dated the Spanish actress in the early 2000s after the two starred together in Vanilla Sky. According to the source, Cruise had seriously considered a future with her. “He really was in love with her and wanted to get married and have children with her,” the source said. “She left him because he was too famous. They couldn’t have a normal life. He was heartbroken. She was the one who got away.”

So why does one of Hollywood’s most successful stars reportedly struggle to maintain a relationship? One source offered a straightforward explanation: Cruise puts his career ahead of almost everything else. “Tom has difficulty sustaining relationships because he puts his career first,” the source said. “Everything revolves around making movies. He’s obsessed with the industry.”
The source also pointed to Cruise’s longstanding commitment to the Church of Scientology. “He’s also very devoted to Scientology, which can be an issue for women who don’t share that religion,” the source said.
A second source echoed that assessment. “Tom’s main love is making movies, and that gets in the way of everything else he does, whether it’s relationships, friendships or business,” the source said. “Being romantically involved with Tom is something many women simply can’t or don’t want to deal with.”
Still, those close to Cruise say he has not given up on the idea of finding a lasting partner. “I know Tom would like to get married again and have it last this time,” the source said. “He wants a stable relationship and, like everyone else, he wants to fall in love.”
Cruise will soon begin another intensive publicity campaign for his upcoming film Digger, likely involving red carpets and, if things go according to plan, awards-season appearances. And according to the source, Cruise would be more than happy not to attend them alone.
“Hopefully he’ll have a new girlfriend when the movie comes out,” the source said, “because it really does help with publicity.”
