In the early hours between Wednesday and Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced what many Israelis had long hoped for: Israel and Hamas had signed the first phase of his plan for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages. Within minutes, social media filled with emotional posts celebrating the historic news.
Among those sharing their joy were Emily Damari and her partner Danielle Amit, who posted a series of Instagram stories showing them cheering and celebrating the announcement.
Damari, who was abducted by Hamas from Kibbutz Kfar Aza during the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, spent 471 days in captivity in Gaza before her release.
In one video call, Damari spoke with Talia Berman, the mother of hostages Gali and Ziv Berman, who are expected to return home as part of the deal. “You deserve this so much,” Damari told her. “You’re the strongest, most amazing mom. We’re going to work harder than ever to heal and celebrate with them. Finally, real happiness.”
Later, Damari and Amit joined former hostages Omer Shem Tov and Eliya Cohen at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv, where they celebrated alongside Einav Zangauker, mother of Matan Zangauker, who is also set to come home soon.
