This festive honey and apple cake makes a wonderful ending to your Rosh Hashanah meal. I prepared this honey cake with apples, creating a beautiful crown of apples around the cake to make it both festive and special. It's a rich cake that's made in just one bowl and is incredibly easy to prepare.
Ingredients:
For the apple crown around the cake:
- 2 green apples
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
For the cake:
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 100g margarine
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- To create the beautiful apple crown around the cake, I cooked the apples lightly with cinnamon and brown sugar. This softened them, allowed them to absorb the flavors, and made it easy to arrange them around the cake.
- Once the apples are positioned around the edges, prepare the cake batter in one bowl and carefully transfer it into the pan using a ladle, being careful not to disturb the apple arrangement on the sides of the cake.
- Bake in the oven, and you'll have a wonderful honey and apple cake that's perfect for celebrating the sweetness of the new year!
- This parve cake combines the traditional flavors of honey and apples that symbolize hopes for a sweet new year, making it an ideal dessert for your Rosh Hashanah table.
