Netanyahu undergoes surgery to remove prostate gland

PM expected to preside over cabinet meeting ahead of procedure at Hadassah Medical Center; operation to last one and a half hours and to require a few days of recovery 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will on Sunday undergo a prostatectomy after he suffered from an infection in his urinary tract caused by a benign prostatic hyperplasia, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said. The procedure will take place at the Hadassah Medical Center.
He had been treated with antibiotics for a number of days to reduce the infection. The procedure will take place after the weekly cabinet meeting over which Netanyahu is expected to preside.
Recovery could take a number of days and the prime minister may not testify in his criminal trial during the week.

Last July Netanyahu was implanted with a pacemaker. While he was under anesthesia, he was temporarily replaced by Justice Minister Yariv Levin.
In April The 74-year-old prime minister had surgery for a fractured hernia. After the operation, he was asked whether he might make full disclosure of his medical condition. He then pushed aside claims that matters of his health were not fully disclosed.

According to the prime minister: "I underwent an examination and I thank the people who managed to call, including reporters, and inquire about my health. I will pass the treatment successfully and return to action very quickly."
