Israel’s first state-owned satellite reaches final orbit, begins mission

Israel Aerospace Industries announced Dror 1 reached its designated orbit 22,370 miles above Earth; satellite successfully deployed its solar panels and antennas, marking key milestone in Israel’s pursuit of space independence

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced on Monday that the national communications satellite "Dror 1" has reached its designated altitude of approximately 22,370 miles above Earth, at the S4 point in the sky. From this position, it has begun its mission on behalf of the State of Israel.

The Israeli satellite was launched about a month ago using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. According to IAI, following the completion of the launch, the satellite transmitted initial data confirming its functionality. After a series of tests conducted by IAI’s engineers, images and updates were received up until the satellite successfully entered its orbit.
Before reaching its destination, the satellite underwent an extensive series of tests and maneuvers in space, directed from the control station at the IAI Space Division in Yehud. These included maneuvers that successfully brought the satellite to its required altitude and orbit.
