About 15,000 Jews currently live in Iran, and amid the war their situation is complex. However, sources familiar with the situation say that for now the condition of Jews across the country remains stable.
According to these sources, members of the community are trying not to stand out and are avoiding public events. They also noted that there has been no unusual treatment of Jews by the regime.
A source familiar with the situation of the communities emphasized: “For now, all that remains is to pray that no harm will come to the Jews. Beyond that — silence is the wisest course.”
According to people familiar with the matter, all weddings and large gatherings within Iran’s Jewish community have been canceled.
“It wouldn’t look good for celebrations to take place while Iran is under attack,” they said.
In addition, officials from Jewish communities in several countries around the world who are familiar with the situation of Iranian Jewry are urging people not to contact Jews inside Iran. According to them, doing so could put their lives at risk.
Last week it was reported that the Jewish community in Iran condemned the Israeli and American strikes that led to the killing of leader Ali Khamenei.
“The leader was engaged in managing the affairs of the state until his final drop of blood and unjustly sacrificed his life for the Iranian nation,” said Homayoun Sameh, the Jewish representative in the Iranian parliament.
Sameyah also published a letter of condolence over what he called the “unjust death” of the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution, who, he said, was killed by the “Zionist regime,” causing a “ a heavy wave of sorrow and grief in the heart of the great Iranian nation and among all the free peoples of the world.”
He added that “the Iranian Jewish community sends its sincere condolences to the noble Iranian nation, to his family members and to all supporters of the Islamic Revolution over the severe and painful loss.”
“There is no doubt,” Sameyah wrote, “that dear Iran mourns the death of a wise, patient and compassionate leader, a figure who dedicated his blessed life to the path of independence, dignity and pride of this land, and who always emphasized national unity, empathy and peaceful coexistence among followers of the divine religions.”
