A Jewish man from London says he no longer feels safe in Britain after he was assaulted days before two Jewish men were stabbed in Golders Green, the heart of the city’s Jewish community.
Writing in the Daily Mail under only his first name, Moishe, because he fears becoming a target, he said antisemitism in Britain has reached a point where many Jews are questioning whether they have a future in the country.
Moishe’s chilling warning after London attack: Jews have no future here
Moishe said he was near the scene of last week’s stabbing attack and watched as the suspect was taken into an ambulance. His wife called him in fear after hearing the news, he said, a day after a taxi driver told her and two other Jewish women that he and a friend dreamed of killing Jews.
A little more than a week earlier, Moishe said, he was attacked while working as a building inspector in Slough. He said a man shouted that he was a “dirty Jew” and a “baby killer” and threatened to break his jaw.
Moishe posted footage of the attack online after the suspect had not been arrested for four days. The video went viral, and the man, identified as Shafiq Rahman, was arrested within hours. Rahman later pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault and was released on bail pending sentencing.
Moishe, who is Haredi, said he has faced antisemitism all his life because he is visibly Jewish. But he said the abuse has worsened since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, with “dirty Jews” replaced by “baby killers.”
Golders Green, home to his synagogue and his children’s school, had long felt like a safe place, he wrote. That changed after Oct. 7, with vandalism, torn-down hostage posters and an attack on ambulances belonging to Hatzola, the Jewish emergency service.
Moishe said some friends are already planning to leave Britain, while others argue that they should stay.
“Unless something changes — dramatically — I don’t think Jews have a future in Britain,” he wrote.
