Argentine Jewish sportscaster’s emotional on-air speech: 'I vowed to fight until all hostages return'

Argentine sportscaster Hernán Feller celebrated the latest hostage releases live on air nearly two years after his aunt was freed from Hamas captivity, vowing never to forget those who stayed silent during the war

An emotional moment on live Argentine television: Jewish sportscaster Hernán Feller, whose aunt Ofelia Roitman was freed from Hamas captivity in November 2023, delivered a powerful speech as more hostages returned home.
“I dreamed of this day for so long, you can’t imagine,” Feller said during a broadcast of a local soccer match between River Plate and Sarmiento. “On November 28, 2023, when my aunt Ofelia came back from captivity, I vowed to keep fighting until all the hostages came home. And here I am—20 hostages who survived the hell of Gaza. This nightmare is over.”

Feller also directed sharp criticism at those who failed to support Israel during the war. “We will not forget or forgive those who stayed silent and looked away. We will not forget or forgive those who spoke of genocide and starvation, nor the antisemites hiding behind a false cause. We will not forget or forgive the collaborators. Know this: we are an unbreakable people. History has proven it.”

He ended his speech with a single Hebrew word: “Home.”
Since the war began, Feller has used his sports platform to advocate for the release of the hostages, continuing even after his aunt’s return. His activism prompted Israeli Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev to invite him to light a torch at Israel’s Independence Day ceremony—an honor he declined, saying he could not celebrate until every hostage was home.
