With winter rains behind us, now is the time to explore Israel’s lush landscapes before they fade. One of the best hiking spots this season is Nahal Tabor in the lower Galilee, nestled between the Jezreel Valley and the Sea of Galilee.
The area boasts rolling green hills, seasonal blooms, flowing streams and scenic viewpoints overlooking the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights. While Nahal Tabor is a popular destination, here are two alternative trails offering equally stunning views with fewer crowds.
Summit trail on Mount Tabor
Mount Tabor, standing at 560 meters (1,837 feet), is one of the most prominent peaks in the Galilee, offering panoramic views in all directions. At its summit sits an Orthodox church, alongside a scenic two-kilometer (1.2-mile) loop trail marked in black.
The trail is mostly flat with some gentle inclines and takes about an hour to an hour and a half to complete. Hikers can stop along the way to take in the crisp mountain air and the breathtaking views of the lower Galilee.

A must-see viewpoint
For a shorter, family-friendly hike, head to the Oren Lifshitz Memorial Lookout, named after a fallen soldier from Kibbutz Gazit who was killed in the Second Lebanon War.
The trail to the viewpoint is a 20-minute walk each way, offering sweeping views of Nahal Tabor Nature Reserve at its seasonal peak. The path is easy to navigate, though slightly muddy in some areas. To the north of the lookout, a trail descends toward the stream, while to the right, visitors can admire the vibrant blue lupine blossoms.

Post-hike coffee stop
For a relaxing break, stop by Cafe Hameyasdim 65 in Kfar Kisch. Owners Gili and Gal, former central Israel residents, relocated to the lower Galilee during the COVID-19 pandemic in search of a quieter, nature-filled life.

The cafe, located in the heart of the moshav, offers a selection of pastries, sandwiches, salads and breakfasts. It also sells cakes, jewelry, wine, olive oil and honey. If visiting on a Friday, don’t miss their organic hummus — a local favorite. The venue occasionally hosts live performances, workshops and flower sales.
