Lufthansa said Wednesday it is canceling overnight flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport through Monday, citing the security situation in the Middle East amid reports of a possible US military strike on Iran.
A spokesperson for the German airline said the Lufthansa Group is closely monitoring developments and will continue to assess the situation in the coming days.
Under the revised schedule, Lufthansa and its group airlines — SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings — will operate only daytime flights to and from Tel Aviv from Thursday, Jan. 15, through Sunday, Jan. 19, the company said.
The move is intended to allow flight crews to return to their home bases without overnight stays in Israel. As a result of the changes, some flights may be canceled, the airline said.
Passengers affected by the adjustments will be automatically rebooked on alternative flights and notified in advance, the spokesperson said. Travelers may also choose to change their departure dates to a later time.
“The safety of our passengers and crews is always our top priority,” the Lufthansa Group said.
The Israel Airports Authority said airport operations are continuing as normal, with no changes at this time. However, it advised passengers to stay updated with their airlines due to the evolving situation.
Any further updates, the authority said, will be announced to the public as needed.
