Suspected DC shooter named as Cole Tomas Allen; assailant armed with rifle, handgun and knives

The man arrested after a shooting at a Washington venue holding the White House correspondents' dinner was identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, according to U.S. law enforcement sources.
A security official told Reuters that Allen was armed with a hunting rifle, a handgun and several knives. Authorities believe he acted alone. He was not shot by security forces at the complex and was later taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Allen faces two counts: use of a firearm during a violent crime and assault of a federal employee with a dangerous weapon. The FBI’s counterterrorism unit is leading the investigation.
The arrest comes as federal authorities continue to examine the suspect’s motive and whether the attack had any ideological, political or terrorism-related component. Officials have not publicly released evidence pointing to a broader plot, and reports citing law enforcement sources described the incident as isolated.
