The IDF and Shin Bet said Wednesday they eliminated Hamas terrorist Iyad Ahmed Abd al-Rahman Shambari, head of the operations department in Hamas’ Military Intelligence Headquarters, in a strike in the northern Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
According to a joint statement, Shambari took an active part in planning Hamas’ infiltration during the October 7 massacre.

In recent years, Shambari was responsible for compiling the operational situational assessment for the entire Gaza Strip. The IDF and Shin Bet said he was a key figure in gathering intelligence on Israeli forces in order to direct and carry out attack plans against IDF troops, and that he posed an immediate threat to troops operating in the area.
IDF troops under the Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue operating to remove any immediate threat, the statement said.
About two weeks ago, the IDF said it killed a Hamas terrorist cell that approached the yellow line and was planning to carry out an immediate attack against troops operating in central Gaza. One of the terrorists killed was Youssef Ibrahim Mahmoud Bashiti, who was involved in the January 2024 disaster in Gaza in which 21 reserve soldiers were killed when buildings collapsed.
