A recent response from Tehran, which Trump reportedly described as “totally unacceptable” and “stupid,” has raised doubts among US officials about whether Iran is negotiating in good faith.
According to CNN, divisions have also emerged within the Trump administration over how to proceed. Some officials are pushing for a more aggressive approach, including targeted military strikes aimed at increasing pressure on Iran. Others argue that diplomatic efforts should continue.
The report said some of Trump’s advisers want Pakistani mediators to take a firmer line in conveying US positions to Iran. There are concerns within the administration that Pakistan may be presenting a more favorable interpretation of Iran’s stance than warranted.
Trump met with his national security team at the White House on Monday to discuss next steps, CNN reported. However, a major decision is not expected before his planned departure for China on Tuesday.
