Argentina's Milei: 'Victory in war depends not on number of soldiers, but on forces from heaven'

Staunch Israel supporter speaks of admiration for biblical Moses; 'He was the great and first liberator in history,' Milei tells Jewish Argentine journalist

Argentinian President Javier Milei, a staunch supporter of Israel known for his affinity to Jewish teachings, has once again showcased his knowledge of Jewish history.
In an interview this week with Jonatan Viale, a Jewish journalist in Argentina, Milei talked about his admiration for the biblical character of Moses, the protagonist of the story of Exodus and the liberator of the Israelites from enslavement in ancient Egypt.

"Who is the person I most admire in the history of mankind? Moses. What was the basic characteristic of Moses? Unique humility," Milei said.
He further elaborated on the significance of the Exodus, saying, "[Moses] was the greatest and first liberator in history. He stood up to Pharaoh, which is comparable to standing up today to the United States, China and Russia together. Victory in war depends not on the number of soldiers but on forces from heaven."
Milei, a known supporter of Israel, visited the country in February. During his visit, he toured the Western Wall and the Gaza border region, where he expressed shock at the crimes committed by Hamas terrorists on October 7.
The Argentine leader voiced a similar sentiment in an interview last month with conservative American pundit Ben Shapiro, stating that the “link between freedom and Israel” is vital to understanding his position.
"It is so important to understand the link between freedom and Israel because it is essential. It is a nation that has achieved the connection between the spiritual and the physical, and spiritual and material harmony produces progress," Milei told Shapiro.

Milei, an economist-turned-politician and self-described libertarian, secured an upset election victory last November with promises of sweeping economic reforms in a country grappling with runaway inflation.
The right-wing firebrand, who has expressed a willingness to convert to Judaism, gave his first post-election interview to the Chabad Hasidic newspaper Kfar Chabad, where he spoke sympathetically about the Jewish people.
"Based on what I have learned and read about the history of the people of Israel and how they have survived all the threats, pogroms, attacks, and persecutions throughout their existence, I am certain and have no doubt that it will be the same now. You will win in the end. My message is to continue believing and trusting in God, be strong, steadfast, and united. In the end, the whole world will be convinced of the eternal truth that the people of Israel live."
"From what I've learned about the history of the Jewish people, their survival against all odds, and the divine protection they've received, I'm certain they will continue to prevail. My message is to keep faith in God, stay strong and united. Eventually, the world will realize the enduring truth - the nation of Israel lives on!" he told the paper.
